Notification system
A general overview of how we decide when to send an alert to a user
The Giraffe Cloud has a simple but powerful system for managing the flow of notifications coming from Edge Controllers.
Types of notification
There are three categories of notification that the Giraffe Cloud can send
Intrusion Such as person detected, vehicle detected, PIR sensor triggered
Tamper Such as doors opened, mains power disconnected
System Such as system offline, low GSM signal
Please see the Events documentation page for full details on what events each category contains.
Notification rules
Intrusion email alerts are sent out when the following conditions are true
the camera is generating intrusion events
vehicle or person alerts are enabled on at least one camera
intrusion alerts are enabled on the Edge Controller
the Edge Controller is armed
an individual user has intrusion alerts enabled in his notification settings
System and tamper alerts are sent out when the following conditions are true
system or tamper alerts are enabled on the Edge Controller
an individual user has system or tamper alerts enabled in his notification settings
Note that system and tamper alerts are sent out irrespective of whether the system is armed or not. This is so as the system can be disarmed during the day when intrusion events are expected, but the Edge Controller will still notify if it is tampered with (for instance, it loses it's mains power connection).
Note that individual user notification settings are global and apply to all teams that the user is a direct member of. Therefore if you enable email notifications, you will receive notifications from all teams you are part of.
You will not receive notifications for teams that you have access to due to it being a reseller account child team. If you wish to receive notifications from a child team, you will need to add yourself as a direct member.
Configuring notification settings
Edge Controller notification settings can be configured on the Notifications tab.
