Understanding how the Edge Controller works with different mobile routers

The Edge Controller has been tested to work with the below routers. Whilst the Edge Controller may be able to work with other routers, Giraffe will not be able to support it.

As a minimum, the Edge Controller needs a GPIO output from the router to configure when the Edge Controller boots. This needs to be designed as an open collector or open drain. If such an output is not available, it may be possible to use a converter.

The router also needs to provide a GPS signal to the Edge Controller as well as network connectivity.

Finally, the router needs to be able to run off 10-18V DC.

Supported routers

Most Peplink devices are supported as long as they have the new style 4 pin Molex Microfit connector. We recommend the Max BR1 HW3 LTEA.

Cradlepoint

The Cradlepoint IBR600C and IBR900 series have been tested and performed well.

Sierra Wireless

RX55, RV55 and the RV50X have been tested.

Teltonika

The RUT95x series and RUTX have been extensively tested.

The RUT955, RUT950 and RUT240 devices are not recommended by Giraffe. The newer generation devices are considerably more reliable.

Robustel

The R1520 has been tested and performed well. An adapter cable is required to connect the GPIO output to the Edge Controller.
