How the Edge Controller integrates with Teltonika Routers

The Edge Controller will connect to a Teltonika router and extract the following metrics:
You can click on the 'Launch WebUI' button to open the router web interface. It will be proxied via the Giraffe cloud and a static IP or port forwarding is not required.
The Edge Controller will monitor the internet connection. If the internet connection becomes really bad or fails completely, the Edge Controller will automatically restart the Router. If this happens, you will see an event in the Event Log.
The open collector output on the router's 4 pin connector is normally connected to the Edge Controller. The router can then be used to remotely switch the entire Edge Controller off, leaving just the router running.
The Edge Controller can obtain it's GPS position from the Teltonika router. This is the default behaviour. If the Teltonika router does not support GPS the Edge Controller can also use a USB GPS receiver - please see the GPS section of the Edge Controller documentation.
Don't forget to Enable the GPS feature in the Teltonika router. The GPS settings are found under Services -> GPS. The additional satellites like Galileo are not required but may give better accuracy. If the GPS position isn't being reported inside the Giraffe Cloud, it's worth first checking it is reported correctly inside the router before contacting support.
The Edge Controller can support V6 or V7 Teltonika firmware. By default the Edge Controller will try and connect using the V7 UBUS API. If you want to use the V6 API, please contact Giraffe's support team who will update the Edge Controller configuration.
If you have a router running 7.0.x / 7.1.x firmware, we highly recommend upgrading them because they were awful.
However, if you want the Edge Controller to be able to connect to them, you need to SSH into the router and edit the /etc/config/rpcd
file.
In the file (vi
is available), you need to find the following lines and put a #
at the beginning of them.
When you have finished, it will look something like this:
